TCEA Educator Awards 2008-2009

Technical Support Person of the Year

Purpose:
This award recognizes exemplary support personnel who make significant contributions by providing technical support to facilitate the successful use of technology on a campus or at the district level.

Eligibility
The candidate for TCEA Technical Support Person of the Year may be non-certified and may include, but is not limited to: lab managers, network administrators, technicians, and campus technology facilitators. Depending upon the structure of the district, the candidate’s job duties might include installation/repair of workstations, servers, printers; network management; and cabling infrastructure. The candidate could also provide introductory training in the use of new hardware/software and use of network resources.

Previous nominees are eligible and encouraged to enter. Active TCEA Board members are not eligible to receive this award.

Application Requirements:

  1. Complete the online entry. Nominees will be asked to provide links to or e-mail supporting evidence for some items.
  2. As part of the online application, each nominee will be asked to provide personal  information including:
    • Job description
    • Number of years in position
    • Accomplishments regarding successful support and/or management of technology at a campus or district level
    • Additional information relating to the job
  3. Each nominee must provide the names of three (3) professional references one of which must be his or her immediate supervisor. The references will be contacted and asked to complete an online questionnaire.

Three finalists will be chosen who must be able to attend the TCEA Convention where the TCEA Technical Support Person of the Year will be announced.

Awards:
The TCEA Technical Support Person of the Year shall receive an engraved plaque and $1,000 from TCEA. Two finalists will receive a plaque and $500. The TCEA Technical Support Person of the Year will be announced during a private awards ceremony and a keynote session at the TCEA State Convention. The three finalists will be notified by telephone prior to the state convention. Recognition of the winners will be published in the TechEdge and posted to the TCEA web site: www.tcea.org.

One award winner(other than Teacher of the Year) will be selected for entry in the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Outstanding Leader of the Year.For more information, please visit www.iste.org and click on Member Resources under Membership.

Applications must be submitted online on or before Dec. 1, 2008

Applicants will be disqualified if all information is not completed and submitted to TCEA by the deadline. A committee of TCEA members will rate each application.
