Area 3
Director
About your Director, Dennis Riedesel:
I am a semi-retired Associate Professor of Education (Curriculum & Instruction) at the University of Houston Victoria specializing in Teacher Education. I have been modeling the use of educational technology in all of my teacher preparation courses. Before coming to the university, I served in a middle school as a Science Teacher for 13 years and a Physical Education Teacher for 5 years along with 15 years as a 7th. grade Football, Basketball and Track coach. During this time I also served in the US Naval Reserves for 21 years with the last 10 years of service as a US Navy Deep Sea Diver. My hobbies include Living History Re-enactments, playing about 14 different musical instruments, and salt-water fly fishing.
For the last eleven years I have served on the SWAT (TCEA Tech Crew) team at the TCEA convention and have served as the TCEA Area III director for the last 6 years.
My experience in education technology started with a programming course--on punch cards. My work on a masters degree was facilitated with the use of the "PIE" word-processing software--where you had to embed the formatting commands in the text. For our high school football team, I switched from using 16mm film to Super-S video along with all the editing and splicing necessary to make "breakdown" films. I was the on-site teacher-in-residence for the Center for Professional Development and Technology grant at our school and it was this grant that got me heavily involved with training teachers to use technology in their classrooms. When I moved to the university, I served for several years as the Director of Professional Development and Technology
