I’m Heather Voran, Instructional Technology Specialist at Region 16 Education Service Center in Amarillo. In my former life, I taught junior high choir for four years, followed by 13 years as an elementary music specialist. I loved integrating technology in my music classroom, and soon began having peers ask me to help them utilize the technology in their classrooms. Later, when my school district received a grant for training teachers in technology integration, I was invited to provide staff development for the district. I was hooked!! I went to work at Region 16 ESC in August, 2000, and received my Master of Education in Instructional Technology in May, 2003.
My husband is a junior high principal, and we have two daughters, one in 6th grade and the other in 8th grade. Being a parent, along with my background in education, makes me ever conscious of the importance of 21st Century teaching and learning in the classroom. The global connections I have made in the past several years have inspired me to see that my own children, as well the students of Area 16, have the opportunity to make their own global connections.
