Educational Tour of Historic Galveston Island

This tour provides a comprehensive live narration tour of the East End Historic District of Galveston. Your tour will take you to Seawall Blvd where we share the history of Galveston Island and the City of Galveston including Galveston’s heyday as the Wall Street of the Southwest, the Great Storm of 1900, the building of Seawall Blvd, and the grade-raising of the Island; past the mansions of Broadway Ave; the 19th century Victorian homes and tree sculptures of the East End Historic District; Pier 21 amusement attractions; the Historic Strand District with its shopping, museums, and restaurants; the art galleries, cafes and night life of Post Office Street; The Grand 1894 Opera House; the Historic Downtown District; and the Silk Stocking Historic District.

The tour will stop at these destinations. The hop-on hop-off tour takes you to each of the attractions where you are able to hop off, enjoy the attraction, and then hop back on a later bus to continue the tour. The shuttle will continue to route for pick-ups with the last route for pick up at 5:15 p.m.

Bishop's Palace

Take a guided tour of this 1895 mansion, home to one of the most powerful families in Texas history - the Moody's. This 28,000 sq.ft. mansion still contains the furnishings and personal effects of the Moody family. Guided tour length: appx 45 min.

Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig & Museum

Take a self-guided tour of this retired jackup drilling rig. The museum features three floors of state-of-the-art educational and interactive displays illustrating the story of offshore oil & gas from seismic technology to exploration and production. Self-guided tour length: appx 45 min.

Harbor Tour

On this guided tour aboard the Seagull II boat, you will see ships, seabirds, dolphins and drilling rigs while being entertained with live narration about the harbor history and folklore. Guided tour length: appx 1 hr.

Pier 21 Theatre - The Great Storm

The Great Storm movie tells the story of the 1900 hurricane that hit Galveston Island and shares the personal stories of survivors and the recovery of Galveston following the deadliest natural disaster in United States history.  Movie length: 30 min

Pier 21 Theatre - The Pirate Island of Jean Lafitte

The Pirate Island of Jean Lafitte movie tells the story of the most notorious pirate to inhabit Galveston Island.  Pirate or patriot? Smuggler or businessman? Merciless murderer and thief, or hero in time of war? These are the contradictions of the legendary Jean Laffite. His harsh actions have secured his place in infamy, but his motives remain a mystery to this day. Movie length: 30 min

Tall Ship Elissa & Texas Seaport Museum

Take a self-guided tour of the official Tall Ship of Texas and see what it was like to live and work on one of the finest merchant ships of the 19th century. The Elissa is a three-masted, iron-hulled sailing ship built in 1877 in Aberdeen, Scotland. The story of Elissa's discovery and restoration is nothing short of miraculous and is beautifully retold in photographs and a video presentation at the Texas Seaport Museum. Self-guided tour length: appx 45 min.

 

Moody Gardens Self-Guided Exhibits

Discounted tickets have been secured for three of the most popular Moody Gardens exhibits. Transportation is not provided; however, free parking is available and the hotels will offer limited shuttle service to and from Moody Gardens. These exhibits are open 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. with last entry at 5:15 p.m.
