Come and Go Events

Make all the Right Turns with Geocaching
So you’ve heard the buzz … but have you engaged in the ultimate adventurous treasure hunt? Participate in this free hands-on self-paced excursion to see first-hand how Geocaching brings technology and adventure together. Using coordinates and a GPS (Global Positioning Satellite) unit you will be able to search for actual caches within walking distance of the convention center. Join in the fun on Wednesday, Feb. 4 from noon–5:00 p.m. and Thursday, Feb. 5 from 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. This event is free, but limited space is available.

Advanced workshops are also available for those experienced geocachers.

Get up to Speed with Podcasting
Whether you’re new to Podcasting or you’re looking for the latest advancements, join us for this free interactive event in which you can visit with veteran educators who successfully podcast, and learn how MP3 players can turn your classroom into a studio. This event is open Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 4 and 5, from 9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. Pre-registration is not required for this come-and-go event.

Robotics Extravaganza 500
Math+Science+Technology=FUN in education! Want to learn more about robotics? TCEA and LEGO are offering beginner and advanced workshops for participants who are interested in or want to expand their knowledge on Robotics.

Don’t have time to attend a full workshop? Robotics Extravaganza 500 in the exhibit hall will feature informal hands-on demonstrations with pre-programmed robots. This is your opportunity to “play” with the robots first-hand and talk to our knowledgeable facilitators about implementing robotics into your classroom.

Film Festival
TCEA’s Film Festival is a digital video showcase presenting K-12 student-created films to reflect on the increase of digital video in the classroom. Attend this informal come-and-go event to share ideas with your peers and discover ways to incorporate video into your classroom or district. We invite you to submit your films to be shared with teachers from across the country in this two-day showcase. Click here, for full details.

TCEA Booth
The TCEA booth, located in the exhibit hall, will be your source for information about TCEA. Learn about all the activities that TCEA organizes and sponsors. Pick up some publications, including the TechEdge magazine, and other literature on TCEA initiatives like Professional Development and Advocacy. Also, be sure to visit TCEA partners including AXA Financial Advisors, PBS Teacherline, ISTE, WeAreTeachers, and Verizon Thinkfinity.

SchoolTube/School Video News Broadcast Center at TCEA
While attending this year’s conference, make sure you stop by the SchoolTube/School Video News Broadcast Center and see a working media center produce and stream live coverage of the key events. This Broadcast Center will be a working studio that could be implemented in any K-12 environment. Staffed by technology professionals and students of Texas schools, the Broadcast Center will produce stories featuring topical conference events and stream live coverage of keynote speakers and special events.

Any school or organization wishing to use the Broadcast Center during the convention is invited to do so. Content can be posted on SchoolTube, the only moderated site for school content.  Please e-mail your reservations for studio time to TCEA@buysvs.com
