An Exploratory Study of Social Work Students’
Opinions on Clickers and Class Participation

Andrew S. Quinn, PhD
University of North Dakota
Department of Social Work

ABSTRACT: Clickers are a technology that is becoming more commonplace on university campuses. This exploratory study used a one group posttest only design to examine student opinions about clickers and class participation in a social work classroom. The results indicate that students found clickers an easy technology to adopt. The majority of students also felt that they participated and learned more because of the clickers. Furthermore, the clickers seemed to give the passive students an opportunity to learn while still remaining anonymous. Overall, the research concludes that the clickers are a desirable technology to foster class participation and learning.
