Invitation to Participate
Call for Participation is Closed
Join us for TCEA 2009, “Accelerate Technology.” The Texas Computer Education Association 29th Annual Convention & Exposition will be held in Austin at the Convention Center, Feb. 2-6, 2009.
We invite you to share your knowledge and expertise with other TCEA members by presenting a workshop or presentation at the 2009 convention. All proposals will be carefully reviewed and selected by a committee of TCEA members. Applicants will receive acceptance or regret notifications in September 2008.
TCEA is the largest state organization in the nation devoted to the use of technology in education. Founded in 1980, the association has been active throughout Texas supporting educational technology. TCEA 2008 had a total attendance of 13,000 people. It attracted more than 8,500 registered attendees with more than 350 exhibitors and more than 500 educational sessions.
Individuals representing all academic disciplines and levels in the educational system and all phases of technology education are welcome to submit proposals. Sessions will be chosen based on their interest to convention attendees and relevance to current trends and best practices.
A data projector, screen, and Internet connection (Ethernet) will be available in each room of the convention center. A computer for each participant to use will be provided for workshop labs only, and not for presentations. Peripheral devices such as printers, scanners, cameras, and other specialized hardware are the responsibility of the presenter.
All presenters and co-presenters must register for the convention and must pay the full convention registration cost. Convention registration will be $135 until the Early Registration Deadline in January 2009. Each presenter is expected to provide an electronic copy of his/her handout and/or presentation in advance. These will be posted on the TCEA web site with all rights reserved to the author.
TCEA offers a variety of special strands for its participants. Each session must be identified with one or two strands. They are: Adaptive and Assistive Technology, Bilingual/ESL, Career and Technology Education, Computer Science, Distance Learning, Internet and Multimedia Production, Leadership, Library and Media, Networking and Technical Support, Professional Development, Struggling Learner, Technology Integration, Technology Applications TEKS, and Web/Internet Usage.
In workshops, the emphasis is on hands-on technology. Workshops are 90 minutes, three hours, or six hours in length. Each workshop will have a limited enrollment to allow active attendee participation. Computer labs will have between 20 and 40 computers available, depending on the room assignment. Each attendee will have a computer to use during the workshop. Workshop presenters may also choose to do a workshop that does not require a computer lab.
TCEA will provide computers equipped with Internet browsers for hands-on workshops. The only software provided in a workshop computer lab is MS Office. Presenters must provide other software to the TCEA office for installation by Nov. 28, 2008.
Workshop participants are expected to pay a fee separate from registration to attend. Workshop presenters receive a stipend for presenting: $50 for ninety-minute workshops, $100 for three-hour workshops, and $150 for six-hour workshops.
These shorter sessions of either 45 minutes or 90 minutes each primarily consist of a presentation with handouts and time for interaction among attendees and the presenter. Individual presenters are encouraged to share proven strategies for successful curriculum integration from personal experience and research projects related to technology-based instruction. Presenters/co-presenters must bring their own computer systems and, if needed, adapters for projectors.
